Can I get into WOFT if I didn’t do so good on my hearing test?
Dave asked:
I’m putting together my packet for WOFT. When I got to the hearing screening part of the flight physical, I had distinct hearing loss in my right ear, and they scheduled a complete hearing evaluation. Can I get a waiver? If so, will this shoot down my packet when it goes before the board?

You can get a waiver for just about anything but not to be cruel, in the Army’s eyes your damaged goods.
It is estimated that by the time you finish flight school they are going to spend around $140,000 to train you to be a pilot. If because of you limitations you are not likely to be able to do your job for your entire career, they may pass on you even with a waiver.
I know it sucks because you probably lost your hearing doing your job for the Army and now it appears that they are punishing you, but that’s the deal.
I had a friend you outscored me in every category but he’d had an ankle which had multiple surgeries. They saw him s damaged goods that probably wouldn’t be able to physically handle the Army for 20 years, so aviation passed on him. He had blown his ankle out slipping on a wet rope during the rain on an obstacle course.

I think 35 is the threshold for hearing loss. I have heard that you can wear shooter’s ear muffs for like 48 hours straight before taking the hearing test and it may help your score. I don’t know for sure, but I have heard this.
