Can unused hearing aids be refabricated for someone else?
irl.kanaan_fan asked:
My Father passed away and left behind an expensive pair of hearing aids. As there are others in our family who need hearing aids, I’m wondering if they can be refitted and (if they can) if there would be any savings by doing so.

hearing aids
Yes, you can recycle hearing aids and glasses! There are organizations that will take them, recondition them and then provide them to needy people. Try the Lions Organization. Also, there are hearing professionals that will take them in and redistribute them to needy people that fit that prescription. Good Luck

If the hearing aid is a behind the ear style it can easily be given to someone else. They just need to have an earpiece made for their own ear. If it is an in the ear style it is a bit more difficult. It can be done, especially if it is a relatively new hearing aid. If it is older it is not really worth it. Again the person would need to have a mold made of their ear. It also depends on if someone else in the family has a similar hearing loss. If the loss of your father is more significant the hearing aid may be too loud for most people. You have to get some advice from an audiologist.

You can best donate it to a number of charities, you should deal with one that provide professional assistance directly with hearing aids so that they hearing aid can safely fitted on to the newer person.
They are usually sent to third world countries.
However, it is not recommended that you sale or use another persons hearing aid. Think of it using someones dentures!
You can damage your or someone Else’s hearing and also there is a possible chance disease transmission.
The Behind the Ear Types are the best see some sites you can donate below.
