Does anyone know anything concerning Phonak Pico-Forte PP-cl bte hearing aid?

Bob C asked:

I am considering purchasing two used aids but know nothing about the Phonak. Is it a good aid and has it been around for awhile?

The Phonak Pico-Forte PP-CL are power analogue behind-the-ear hearing aids.

If you have a severe hearing loss, for example, an average threshold loss of over 60dB, they could be an appropriate hearing aid.

However, as they have been produced since the 1980s, they are not cutting edge technology. They are certainly powerful, but are not especially suitable for people with mild or moderate hearing losses, or people who have a specifically high frequency loss.

Also, their response in background noise is highly distracting. I fitted many of these to children before digital hearing aids became available, and they certainly had to adapt to a very noisy world.

It would be worth returning to your Hearing Instrument Specialist or Audiologist to discuss other options. If these hearing aids are not for your pattern of hearing loss, they could permanantly damage your hearing.

There are much better hearing aids available now with the advent of digital technology. As with all behind-the-ear hearing aids, the earmold is crucial to the performance to the hearing aid. Comfortable, custom made earmolds can transform even a basic behind-the-ear hearing aid. Also, all hearing aids are programmed or adjusted to your specific hearing loss.
