Is there any kind of medicine that as a side effect causes you to hear things that no one else can hear?

My mom is 80 and has severe hearing loss. She is on many meds. She keeps hearing noises that no one else can hear and it’s driving her crazy. HELP! Also she hears this at her home, but no where else and she has a hearing aid that when she wears it, she doesn’t hear these noises.

As far as I know, drugs of abuse cause such effects. In her case it may be inner ear/brain problem ratherthan side effect of any medication. In high BP also whistling or ringing is heard. When she uses hearing aid, she hears other (real ) noises so these sounds are ignored. Get her checked up, specially if she has any other problem too.
Good luck!

hearing aids
The condition of hearing things others don’t is called aural hallucination.
There are several meds that include this as a potential side effect, mostly antidepressants, but also some high blood pressure meds.
Plus wierd things happen when lots of drugs combined. This is a major problem for many seniors. You might want to make a list of all the meds and make sure one physician knows about them all.
