law enforcment and hearing requirments?

Tierney G asked:

Is there any way i could make it into Marshall training with hearing aids? I contacted the bureau but they have not yet responded, it has been a month.

I have the same hearing with aids as one would with out them. (Meaning I hear like a normal range person would with hearing aids).
I have had my heart set on this and have been training and attending college for 4 years just to become a marshall, and just now I know I need 30 DB or better… any loop holes?

Thank you and god bless.
so i am pretty much failed with my dream of a Marshall? I really wish that people would say this before i spend the money on training. What is it you do? I mean local work would be like police officer????

Thanks.

Depends on the agency really. I have seen a lot requiring hearing in “normal range” without hearing aids. So that would probably rule you out.

There are also agencies like mine, that as far as I know, have no published hearing requirements. If someone would apply, it would probably be on a case by case basis. So I imagine it would be an uphill battle for you.

Federal jobs will probably be out for you. You will probably be better off with a smaller local department.

The Americans with Disabilities Act pretty much guarantees that you cannot be discriminated against because of your hearing problems. If the job requires that you hear at a certain level, and if you can hear at that level with hearing aids, you can’t be denied the job on that basis.
There are lots of Marshalls who wear glasses or contacts. Corrected vision is acceptable. So is corrected hearing.

Sometimes there are loop holes allowed…not often though with the Marshalls….. but something you may want to look into is the surgery that can correct your hearing. if your hearing aides help then you should be a great candidate for the surgery. i dont know for sure since i am not a doctor. the surgery consists of implanting a tiny chip near the eardrum that enhances sound. it is costly, but its probably something you should look into if you truly want to follow in your chosen career path.

No sorry, you will have to have hearing uncorrected at certain levels to even be a campus police officer.
    I am sorry,
