Loud concert and temporary hearing loss…?

I went to a local show last night, and I forgot my ear plugs. The music was WAY loud, to the point that it almost hurt my ears. It was only about half an hour long, but I knew I’d be temporarily deaf after we left. Here we are almost 12 hours later, and I don’t feel like it’s gotten any better, and it’s starting to scare me.

How long does it take for this to wear off? How can I gauge the permanent damage?

It comes down to “wait and see.”
20 years later, I wish I had taken better care of my hearing. I still having ringing in both of my ears.
It’s actually better than it used to be and my hearing tests show that my hearing has improved. Pretty amazing considering there are still people out there who will tell you that there is no way those nerves can ever heal…people who haven’t read any research from the past 10-15 years…

It’s def. not permanent damage.
I used to go to local shows about every weekend, and come home with the same thing.
It’ll be the same in probably about a day.

There shouldn’t be any permanent damage, hopefully. Permanent hearing loss generally comes from repeated exposure.
Hopefully you should find your hearing returning to normal over the next hours or days.

Too bad you went to the show voluntarily. Otherwise you could sue the concert for loss of hearing.
