Not sure if anyone can help me but I thought I’d give it a try! My step dad needs a hearing aid but no money?
PurrrDcat asked:
My step dad is dying of cancer, he is doing good now but he can’t hear! I didn’t know if there was any organization that helps with stuff like that? His hearing aids would run $7200 a piece! How is anyone supposed to pay for that? His insurance only pays a small amount. It’s just a shame that people who are this bad can’t even enjoy hearing things in their last days! I even tried the cancer society with no luck! Any one have any information that might help I would greatly appreciate! Thanks so much xoxoxox
Thank you all so much for your information. I can’t wait to talk to my mom and step dad tomorrow about all this. so eager to start trying for help again. God bless ……………

I am sorry about your dad but if his eyesight is still good maybe you could write notes back and forth.

hearing aids
Has he asked his doctor for the names of any organizations that may be able to help him?
Start calling around durable medical equipment supply vendors in your area. Explain the situation, and see if they would be willing to bite your step dad’s cost of the hearing aids.
I work for a DME company, and we often will help out those who could not otherwise pay for their medical equipment.
You’d be surprised, there are some generous people out there.

Try a local hearing society or association for the deaf.

If your family is low-income, or if he’s higher income but is “medically needy” he can apply for Medicaid to pay for his hearing aid. Contact your local dept. of welfare or social services. If he’s a veteran, he might be eligible for assistance through the VA. You can also try contacting one of the agencies for the deaf.
