Sharp inner ear pain/loss of hearing?

PetitLolita3 asked:

My BFs left ear gets clogged at least once or twice a year & the clogging is accopanied by muted or 80% loss of hearing. Usually he just puts some ear ache drops in there & in a few days he’s right as rain.

But this time he had the clogging & loss of hearing, we decided to try & unclog his ear w/ a common earwax rinse from the drug store. It allowed some hearing to be restored, but now we has a sharp, stinging inner ear pain. Sounds like an infection, but not sure if I should give him antibiotic or pain killer. Should I be afraid ear drum may be damaged?

Unless you’re an MD you should schedule an appointment with his primary care physician for him

Get your boyfriend to an audiologist as soon as possible, it sounds like an infection caused by attempting to unclog his ear.
In any case, whilst ear infections are common in children,(Otitis Media), this is not to be expected in an adolescent or adult. Temporary loss of hearing may be present with ear wax and infections, but if they remain untreated then permanent damage can occur.
